Chelsea thrashed Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup final, held at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, to claim their second title in the competition.
Cole Palmer was the star of the show, scoring two goals and providing an assist to seal PSG’s fate.
Chelsea dominated the match from the start, with Palmer scoring the opening goal in the 22nd minute, followed by another identical goal eight minutes later.
João Pedro sealed the win with a delightful chip over Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 43rd minute.
PSG struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match, despite having more possession. Their frustration boiled over in the 86th minute when João Neves was sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair. Chelsea’s victory marked their second Club World Cup title, following their win in 2021. The Blues will pocket around $125 million in prize money and earn the right to wear a special FIFA badge until 2029.
The match ended on a sour note, with PSG manager Luis Enrique appearing to slap João Pedro’s face, sparking tension between the two teams. This incident may lead to disciplinary action from FIFA.
Chelsea will now focus on their pre-season friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, while PSG will look to regroup and prepare for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham.
