Renowned Nigerian evangelist and spiritual leader of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family confirmed his passing in a statement on Monday, noting that he died on October 6, 2025. The family described his transition as a “glorious passage from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.”
Widely regarded as a spiritual general and founding father of faith in Nigeria, Rev. Ukpai dedicated over six decades of his life to evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word, and prophetic demonstration of God’s power. His ministry touched millions of lives within Nigeria and across the world, shaping destinies and nurturing spiritual growth across generations.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity. His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” the family said.
Throughout his ministry, Rev. Ukpai became known for his fiery evangelistic crusades, transformative preaching, and unwavering commitment to empowering both clergy and lay leaders.
Beyond his ministerial work, he was celebrated as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to countless individuals who looked up to him for guidance in both faith and life.
The family expressed profound gratitude for his life and contributions, stating that while they mourn his physical absence, they rejoice that he has “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”
They added that details of his funeral and other arrangements would be announced in due course.
Rev. Ukpai’s ministry, which spanned more than 60 years, leaves behind a profound spiritual and social legacy, including churches, educational initiatives, and humanitarian efforts that continue to impact communities globally.
His life, the family concluded, stands as a testament to the biblical truth that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
