Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has dismissed rumours circulating on social media alleging the death of former Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano.
Soludo, in a statement issued on Friday by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, said the reports claiming that Obiano died in a London hospital were “malicious and utterly false”.
He said he had personally spoken with Obiano and could confirm that the former governor was alive and in good health.
“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible.
“I strongly urge media practitioners, especially online publishers, to uphold the ethics of journalism by verifying any information through official channels before rushing to publish.
“The spread of unverified death rumours is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust,” the governor said.
Soludo urged members of the public to disregard the trending report, assuring them that Obiano remained hale and hearty.
He also wished the former governor continued strength, peace and a long, fulfilling life.

“We’ll sue them for anywhere between a billion and five billion dollars, probably some time next week. I think I have to do it. They’ve even admitted that they cheated,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Trump’s lawyers sent the BBC a letter on Monday accusing it of defaming the president with the video of the speech before the 2021 US Capitol riot and giving it until Friday to apologize and pay compensation.
“The people of the UK are very angry about what happened, as you can imagine, because it shows the BBC is fake news,” Trump said late Friday.
He added that he planned to raise the BBC issue with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has backed the broadcaster’s independence while avoiding taking sides against Trump.
“I’m going to call him over the weekend. He actually put a call into me. He’s very embarrassed,” Trump said.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said that the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu is working hard to end frequent grid collapses and achieve grid reliability and stability in the power sector.
Adelabu stated this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday while fielding questions from newsmen at the NISO Management maiden retreat 2025 with the theme “NISO on the Move.”
Represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alh. Muhammadu Mamman, the minister said President Bola Tinubu’s administration, at inception, began doing things differently to ensure grid stability and reduce power outages in the country.
He said the creation of NISO was an initiative of the Federal Government to ensure that things are done differently in the sector.
Nigeria has experienced frequent grid collapses caused by a combination of factors, including ageing and poorly managed infrastructure, lack of funding, and vandalism.
These factors have caused widespread blackouts that negatively impact the economy and daily life, forcing businesses and households to rely on expensive alternatives such as generators.
However, Adelabu noted, “Since the commencement of this administration as everybody knows, things have been going on differently. The creation of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) itself is something that government is doing differently to ensure grid stabilization, reduction in power outages and ensure that every Nigerian has access to electricity.
“This maiden edition of NISO retreat is an avenue for them to dialogue and ensure that they are doing things differently, unlike the way it was being done before and that’s why we are here to support them to ensure that they succeed as an organization and make sure that the country gets adequate and stable power supply.”
The Chairman, Board of Directors of NISO, Dr. Adesegun Akin-Olugbade, in his remarks, lauded the dedication of the staff of NISO, noting that such commitment led to the successful synchronisation of the Nigerian grid with the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
