Fake Certificate: Minister Uges UNN to Release Transcripts

Date:

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has appealed to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to release his academic transcript without further delay.

The minister, who has been accused of submitting a forged certificate upon his appointment in 2023, insisted that he graduated from the institution in 1985 with a degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry and second-class honours (lower division).

Minister Defends Academic Record
Speaking through his spokesperson, Dr Robert Ngwu, at a media briefing in Abuja, Nnaji accused the university of issuing conflicting reports about his graduation, alleging that the move was politically motivated.

He tendered evidence, including the 1985 graduation brochure with his name listed as “Nnaji Uchenna G” and a letter signed by the Registrar, Dr Celine Ngozi Nnebedum, confirming his admission in 1981 and graduation in 1985.

“The university must uphold its proud motto of restoring the dignity of man. This is not about one man’s record, it is about protecting truth, preserving institutional honour, and ensuring that no university becomes a pawn in partisan politics,” Nnaji said.

The minister further lamented that despite a court order directing UNN to release his transcript, the institution had refused to comply.

Court Adjourns Case to November 10
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 10, 2025, for the hearing of Nnaji’s suit against UNN.

The minister is seeking a writ of mandamus to compel the release of his transcript and prevent tampering with his academic records.

Justice Hauwa Yilwa adjourned the case after counsel representing the university failed to file their reply within the expected time frame
