Kano Will Stand by Tinubu, Barau Jibrin Pledges

Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, has expressed confidence that the people of Kano and the northern region will stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
He stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the northern populace will reciprocate the goodwill and developmental gestures shown by the President since assuming office.
The Senator made this known on Monday during the annual undergraduate scholarship programme he sponsors at the newly renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
The event attracted several dignitaries from both the state and federal levels, including the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, and the Kano State APC Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas.
Others present included the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Kadage, and the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Ado Abdullahi.
In his address, Senator Barau commended President Tinubu for approving the renaming of the institution after the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, a respected statesman, diplomat, and one of Kano’s most distinguished leaders.
He said the decision reflected the President’s respect for the legacies of northern leaders who made significant contributions to Nigeria’s unity and development.
According to the Senator, the process leading to the institution’s upgrade and renaming took nearly ten years of persistent effort.
He explained that President Tinubu’s prompt approval once the request reached him demonstrated his administration’s dedication to promoting education and investing in human capital development across the country.
Barau described President Tinubu as the “grandfather of the institution” and referred to himself as the “father of the university,” noting that both leaders share a commitment to ensuring the continued progress of the educational sector.
He assured the management, staff, and students of the university of his unwavering support for its development and pledged to sustain his scholarship initiative for deserving students.
He highlighted that the President’s approval of the renaming was not just a political gesture but a sign of genuine respect for Kano’s historical figures and contributions to Nigeria’s growth.
The Senator emphasized that the people of Kano recognize these actions and will not forget them when the time comes to show appreciation through their political choices.
The event also featured commendations from other speakers who praised President Tinubu’s intervention in education and his recognition of Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule’s legacy.
The occasion marked another moment of collaboration between federal and state leaders in advancing educational opportunities and honouring the region’s past heroes.
He said: “When I presented a request to President Tinubu to name this institution after our elder statesman, he immediately approved it. This is how he continues to demonstrate love and respect for Kano and our heroes.
