Headline: Kanu Failed to Call Witnesses,Preferred A No Case Submission.

‎The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has withdrawn his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism offences.

‎Kanu who had previously applied for a witness summons, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday that after reviewing his case file, he was convinced there was no valid charge against him.
‎
‎“Since I am convinced that there is no valid charge against me, and because I was subjected to an unlawful trial, there would be no need for me to conduct any defence,” he declared.
‎
‎Presiding Judge Justice James Omotosho asked Kanu to file a written address reflecting his position and to serve it on the prosecution accordingly.
‎
‎The judge further advised the IPOB leader to seek legal guidance before finalising his decision.
‎
‎“You should consult experts in criminal law on the consequences of the option you have chosen,” Justice Omotosho warned.
‎
‎The matter, which had earlier been adjourned to October 27 for the defendant to open his defence, has now been shifted to November 4, 5, and 6 for the adoption of final written addresses.
‎
‎The court will, at the adjourned dates, consider Kanu’s stance that the evidence presented so far and the charges brought against him have failed to establish a case requiring his defence.
