I will not only enhance salaries, but I will also pay the 13th month.
13th Month Salary.
A senior public servant in Osun recently visited me one evening in Oṣogbo. After all the small talk and discussions around Osun’s current issues, he took a deep breath and said,
”I have a question for you on salary matters. People are scared of the Half Salary days, and they are saying you will reduce civil servants’ salaries when you become governor”. From his body language, I felt this was the big question that brought him in the first place and he was informally representing a whole lot of Osun workers.
I was a little surprised at first that anyone could think that I would think N70,000 is even enough to sustain a worker for a month.
Anyway, I let him know how much I feel for our people who are on the Minimum Wage and of course as an indicator of the earnings of the average civil servants.
”Do you really think I work this hard on programmes that will lift the standard of living across the state only to come and crash salaries”?
That will take a level of cruelty I don’t want and God will not let me have. I want to see our people earning more and living better. I took the time to explain things to him and gave him a brief outline of my housing plan for Osun workers, which seemed to surprise him.
In closing, I told him that I can’t promise a salary raise at this time, even in line with my wishes, but I am going to promise him something: we will always pay the 13th Month Salary. We will start with that and anything above the present salary level is possible.
We will never betray Osun workers. We will always arrive at doing much better than in the past. A lot better for that matter.
Opportunity. Enterprise. Jobs. Wealth – that is the K-RAD vision.
