UK Prime Minister Says Country Not Involved In Attack On Venezuela

Date:

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he has yet to speak with US President Donald Trump following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

Starmer stated this in a short interview on Saturday posted on his official X handle in reaction to the US forces’ operation in Venezuela.

He said that the United Kingdom will establish the facts and consult with allies regarding the situation in Venezuela.

He said, “The situation in Venezuela is fast moving. We will establish all the facts and speak to allies. Our embassy in Caracas is working to ensure that all British nationals in Venezuela are supported.

“I haven’t spoken to Trump yet. What I can say is that the UK is not involved in any way in this operation.

“And as expected, we are focusing on British nationals in Venezuela, and we are working very closely with our embassy.

“So, I will want to talk to the president. I will talk to allies, but at the moment, I think we need to establish the facts.”

It was earlier reported that Trump announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

Trump disclosed this in a post via his Truth Social media account on Saturday.
He wrote, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country.

“This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

This is coming few months after the United States government doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest of Maduro to $50 million, citing his alleged role in international drug trafficking.
