Kano Distributes Free Medication For Whooping Cough, Launches Awareness Campaign

Date:

The Kano State Government, through the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, on Thursday carried out a public health awareness campaign and distributed free medication to residents of Durmawa in Bebeji Local Government Area.

The outreach exercise, which took place in the Durmawa community in Tiga, followed reports of suspected cases of whooping cough.

This was contained in a statement by the Director-General of KNCDC, Prof. Muhammad Abbas, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH Online on Friday.

The statement noted that, speaking during the visit, Abbas said the team was in the community following reports of suspected cases of an infectious disease believed to be whooping cough.

“We are here as a result of reports of suspected cases of an infectious disease believed to be whooping cough,” he said.

He urged residents to promptly visit health facilities whenever they observe symptoms of illness in their children to enable early medical attention.

“I want to use this opportunity to emphasise the importance of visiting health facilities whenever any symptoms of illness are observed in your children,” he added.

The DG also charged residents to make proper use of the free medication distributed to achieve the desired health outcomes.

Abbas further assured that the KNCDC remains fully prepared to respond swiftly to any suspected disease outbreak anywhere in the state.

“The KNCDC is always prepared and ready to respond swiftly to any suspected outbreak of disease wherever it may occur across the state,” the statement quoted the DG to have said.
