The Vice-Chancellor of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has attributed significant progress currently being recorded in the University to God, while urging staff of the institution to continue to pray for its development.
Prof. Popoola made the statement in a remarks made at the June 2026 edition of the University-organised monthly prayer meeting, which held on Monday June 1, 2026 in the institution.
Acknowledging importance of prayer in the affairs of human beings, the University Administrator commended the initiators of the prayer meeting, stating its effect on the institution, has been very positive.
The renowned scholar, also lauded staff of the University for participating in the monthly spiritual exercise, saying ” the only place to be happy is in the presence of God”.
Prof. Popoola used the occasion to drop hint of plan by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to approve the release of the sum of Two billion naira for execution of Special Intervention projects in the University, stating that the development demonstrates ” the hands of God in the affairs of the institution”.
While advising staff of the University to continue to dedicate themselves to good service delivery, the University head, prayed that God would keep them safe and grant them peace of mind as they go through the month of June.
His words: “God is doing something in our lives and the life of our University, I welcome all of you to the month of June and pray that this month shall bring progress and happiness in Jesus name”
“The only place to be happy is in the house of God, if you look at the newspapers and television, what you see these days is bad news, let us continue to keep faith with God and remember to pray for our nation and the University”
“We are making significant progress in many areas in the University and these are happening because the Lord is in control. We got approval of Two billion Naira allocation for Special Intervention projects from Tetfund recently for our University, there are many instances like that, therefore, I want to encourage you to continue to pray more for our University” he remarked.
Earlier in his sermon, one of the Senior members of the University prayer committee, Pastor Paul Adebayo, stressed the need for citizens of Nigeria to remain strong and move closer to God in the face of “daunting socio- economic challenges confronting them.
He expressed serious concern about what he described as high rate of insecurity in Nigeria, noting that the only way to confront the problem is by “bringing them before God”.
The cleric quoted several passages from the Holy Bible in the book of Mark 4 v 35-40; Acts of Apostles chapter 27 as well as Isaiah 1 v 18-19 to mention but few, in order to bustress his points, while admonishing the congregation to ” have personal relationship with your maker”.
In addition, the religious leader, advised staff of the institution not to despair, but to remain steadfast “in view of the prevailing economic situation in the country”, as they go through the month of June.
Similarly, the Senior University prayer committee member, reminded the congregation of the need to seek constantly the face of God and to exercise patience, saying “you cannot coerce God to do anything, let us prioritise our lives and put God first, when we do this our challenges will fade away” he stated.
The spiritual exercise, which held the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium in the University, was attended by some principal officers of the institution including the: Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Senior Academic and Non- teaching staff as well as Heads of Directorates, Divisions and Units, staff and students to mention but few.
