Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has stated that appointing repentant offenders as ambassadors for good conduct is voluntary and not a paid role.
Keyamo said it is common practice globally for a repentant offender to publicly campaign against the offence they once committed.
“It is akin to community service. It is not paid for and it is a voluntary service,” the minister wrote on X.

He added that the use of the title “ambassador” does not confer any perquisites of office, noting that similar roles have been given to repentant persons by past governments.
Keyamo said while aviation agencies are considering using Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM 1, for such a role, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) are also looking at appointing Comfort Emmanson, who has shown remorse, as their ambassador for good passenger conduct.
He said Emmanson was released from prison custody on Thursday, based on his earlier statement.
“Whilst the usual suspects can continue to question our decisions on this issue, we firmly believe we have been fair to all,” he said.
