People, Not Governors Will Count in 2027 Election- Peter Obi

The former governor of Anambra state and Labour Party, LP candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Gregory Obi has reacted after some governors defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
His reaction was contained in a post that was published on the official X handle of VANGUARD on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
His statement is coming after the governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress.
However, when asked if the APC has captured the Southeast region following the defection of the Enugu state governor, the former governor of Anambra state said he doesn’t believe that anybody has captured anywhere.
Peter described the governor of Enugu state as a very good friend. He said before he made the move to the All Progressive Congress, he must have done his calculations very well.
Speaking about the forthcoming presidential election in 2027, Peter Obi said the people will determine the winner of the election. He said the election will not be won by the number of governors or senators that a political party has.
Here is what Peter Obi said according to VANGUARD;
“Peter Mbah is a good friend of mine. And I believe that as governor, he must have taken his decision based on his own political views and calculations.
“As for the alleged plot to capture the South-East, we are not in a military time when you capture people.
“You are a leader. You tend to do the right things for them to follow you. So I don’t think anybody is capturing anywhere”.
