Police Commissioner Assures That Benue Schools Safe

Date:

The Benue State Police Command has assured the public that schools in the state are safe.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emenari Ifeanyi, told newsmen on Friday that security around schools had been tightened.

The Command has deployed personnel, including the Schools Protection Squad (SPS), to key schools, with particular attention to girls’ schools.

“The Inspector General of Police has directed all Commissioners of Police to secure schools and worship centres nationwide. In Benue, we have permanent security at public schools, routine patrols in others, and principals have police contacts for immediate response,” Ifeanyi said.

He added that programs have been organised to train teachers and students on emergency procedures and how to contact the police if needed.

Regarding the upcoming Yuletide, Ifeanyi said the Command had put proactive measures in place to ensure safety across the state. Management teams have been deployed to the hinterlands, and Deputy and Assistant Commissioners are overseeing divisions with tactical teams in volatile areas.

“We are working closely with sister security agencies, the military, NSCDC, Civil Protection Guard, Forest Guards, Hunters Association, and Local Government Chairmen to prevent crime during the festive season,” he said, urging the public to report suspicious activities to local DPOs and Area Commanders.

There has been a surge in attacks on schools and a series of abductions across Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states, raising serious concerns about the safety of students nationwide.

The escalating threat has prompted authorities in several other parts of the country to close schools as a precautionary measure, while security agencies step up efforts to protect educational institutions and prevent further incidents.
