Federal Government has begun the rebuilding of Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure Road, a major highway linking Ekiti State to Osun State boundary.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said this in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti yesterday.
He said the contract for the 56.18-kilometre road was awarded to Messrs CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, with a completion timeline of 24 months beginning from March 23, 2026.
Olatunbosun said the project would commence from Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti and extend to the Osun State boundary, adding that the road would be built using reinforced concrete from the Police Headquarters axis to ensure durability.
He stated that construction had already started following the handover of the site to the contractor, with work ongoing around the Erio-Ekiti axis.
He described the project as a major boost to socio-economic activities in Ekiti State and Southwest, noting that the road served as a critical corridor for transportation and commerce.
“This project is not just about road construction, but also about improving livelihoods, enhancing connectivity and strengthening economic integration within the region,” he said.
The commissioner thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project, describing it as a fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in Ekiti State.
He said the initiative reflected the efforts of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in attracting federal presence through sustained engagement with relevant authorities.
Olatunbosun, however, appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with the contractor and adhere to traffic and safety regulations throughout the construction period.
He said the state government would provide the necessary support to ensure timely completion of the project.
