Reps Security Panel To Hold Peace Dialogue In Plateau Today

Date:

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Security has scheduled an all-inclusive dialogue for security stakeholders in Plateau State.

The committee’s sitting is not unconnected with recent unrest in Jos, the Plateau State capital, which was sparked by gunmen’s planned attacks and escalated by reprisals.

The committee said it would hold a strategic stakeholders’ meeting to dialogue on causes and fashion out a way forward.

A public invitation by the committee’s chairman, Wale Hammed, a copy of which The Nation obtained yesterday, reads: “The House of Representatives Committee cordially invites critical stakeholders, including government representatives, former governors, traditional institutions, security agencies, civil society organisations, international partners, religious bodies, academia, researchers, public-spirited individuals, and the general public, to a one-day special dialogue and security conference.

“This important gathering aims to examine and address the root causes of the security challenges in Plateau State and beyond, while collaboratively developing practical and sustainable solutions.

“Theme: Restoring Stability and Unity: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Security in Plateau State and Beyond.

“This conference will provide a platform for inclusive dialogue, enabling participants to share insights, reflect on real-life experiences, and contribute to strategies that foster collaboration, strengthen unity, and promote lasting peace.

“Let us come together to shape a secure and prosperous future for Plateau State.”

A communique is expected to be issued at the end of the dialogue.
