The Ogun State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Bose Jimoh, on Thursday said the command is investigating Akinsanya Oladimeji, 55, and 45-year-old Kehinde Rasheed for allegedly trafficking their 15-year-old daughters, Adeola and Rokibat Adeyemi, through the desert to Libya for child labour.
Jimoh disclosed this in a statement sent to our correspondent on Thursday.
She explained, “Rasheed, who is a widower, and Akinsanya allegedly trafficked their daughters to Libya in 2024 and were received in the North African country by Afusat Akinsanya, the wife of one of the suspects and mother of Adeola.
“However, Rasheed, the widower, claimed that sometime in February 2025, Afusat Akinsanya, who had been in Libya since 2018, called to inform him that his daughter, Rokibat, had died on account of illness.”
Jimoh stated that Rasheed was alleged to have attempted to cover up his daughter’s death in Libya until he eventually owned up to the alleged crime as a result of sustained pressure from the family of his late wife, who were demanding the whereabouts of Rokibat.
The aggrieved family members were said to have reported the incident to the police, who arrested the two men and subsequently transferred the case to NAPTIP for further investigation.
“The case was handed over to NAPTIP by the NPF for thorough investigation. An investigation is currently ongoing to ensure the suspects are held accountable for their actions.
“The circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of the 15-year-old daughter of Kehinde Rasheed would be unravelled, while efforts are also ongoing to ensure the safe return and repatriation of the second 15-year-old victim who is still in Libya,” Jimoh disclosed.
